How to use the “Four Ps” approach for copy writing

In order to not only attract by advertising, but also call your potential clients to action, writing is the core tool. If that is done without structure and coherence, there would be no understanding. The purpose of advertising is to sell a product or service. As there are numerous products and services offered nowadays, one needs a powerful and compelling copy in order to advertise successfully. For that reason, there are several written communication frameworks. One of the most popular has proven to be the Four Ps approach.

The four Ps of copywriting, stand for promise, picture, proof and push.

  1. Promise

The role of the promise is to catch attention the right way. How many times have we seen and ignored advertisements? That is because of either clichés, unnecessary information or failed attempts to promote the right thing the right way. A beneficial promise is made with a headline, the most important part, as if you do not attract your reader with your headline, you lost them already. Tell them you’re your product is going to do for them and how it will improve their lives in a few words. Quite demanding, isn’t it?

  1. Picture

As the name suggests, you have the role of a painter painting a picture for your client. The picture should be as specific as possible, and your point is to get your reader on an emotional level. Use descriptive language and storytelling, and make them dream about enjoying the benefit of what you are suggesting or promoting. All of us decide to buy based on emotion, and picture is all about catching the right emotion and lead it to the path of acceptance.

  1. Proof

Now it’s time for serious action. You got your reader’s attention, you communicated their emotion, and now you need to back up your promise with proof. Statistics, graphs, testimonials, case studies and other compelling data that will demonstrate that the promised benefits will be truly delivered. Now the focus is not just the emotional level, but is shifting to the rational, and that is the reason why the readers should reach full acceptance of your message.

  1. Push

This is the final element that makes action more likely, delivering an exceptional offer. Push is about the realization of your reader of the sense of your idea and their decision to act and buy. Now you are connecting the beneficial promise and the picture to acceptance and a particular action. Explain once again and in more detail, why your reader should do what you are asking. Your target should be fully understood and make sure that you also understand that your readers have understood. If you are still not completely sure, use bonuses, discounts and special offers as your last chance.

Having all the information they need, your readers are now motivated to take action. They have understood your message and have accepted your offer for a high-quality product. Many times people need to be presented to understand, to be educated in a friendly way by a compelling structure in order to see the things you see in your offer.

How Much Does a Professional Writer Cost in Spain?

As a Spanish freelance writer, I have seen many job offers for 5 euros per 1200 words. Actually, one time that I bid for a project in which someone needed 6 posts of 800 words about belts daily for the long-term, I was told that I was out of the market because my price was 10 euros per post.

Well I don’t know how much you know about belts, but in my case writing 6 posts daily, no matter the subject, requires some research to provide fresh material each time.

As most clients usually expect the posts to be error-free, I usually need to proofread my own posts or pay someone to do it.

Of course it depends on the subject and on the text length, but if you want to provide a high quality text, you can’t write more than 6-8 posts per day. Well you can if your clients are involved in the work and they suggest titles and have a general idea about the post structure. But, most of the time the clients only know that they need a large number of posts for SEO. In these cases, if you ask me, you can only increase your productivity hurting your quality.

Let’s do an easy calculation:

Price 5 euros.

Total income per month: 60 x 22 working days = 1100 euros

And now the freelancer needs to pay taxes= 280 euros -> 820 euros in total. Also, people need to understand that if a freelancer takes a week for holidays, he is not earning money because he is not working.

And now you are likely saying, well that is not so bad, isn’t it?

But, freelancers also have to look for jobs, write applications for new projects, generate invoices, and do basic accounting. And considering that if the freelancer takes a week for holidays, he is not earning money because he is not working. So, in the end that 800 euros are much less than what they seemed.

As a conclusion you can’t get 500 words posted by less than 8-10 euros if you want a professional writer. You can get a high quantity of posts cheaper, but face it, the writer is not professional.

I am not saying that hiring an amateur is a bad option, you have to decide whether you want to place your trust in a professional or someone who has a writing hobby.

There are a wide range of options in the market to choose from but don’t lie yourself with impossible options.

Working at home as copywriter can be the most exciting job that you ever had. But, it can be also the most irritating task that you will face especially when you experience having no idea about what to write. Yes, I’m talking about that big problem called

up from his head. It happens and when it does, it usually brings stress to the freelancers. But then, this is the right time to get ideas! Did you know that there are still many ways on how to write despite of being stressed at all? This is possible by following the simple ways to get the right idea.

  1. Read more articles online. Since freelancers write articles about anything under the sun, freelancers need to know more about the things that they deal with. Being exposed to articles about different topics gives one idea on how to come up with an article. Your chosen topic must be updated and new. It must cover the basic things that we need to know about this. This ensures you to be more reliable writer compared to a writer who just merely writes and knows nothing about the world.
  2.  Make sure to use only validated information when you present facts. Moreover, try being creative in the process of writing an article. Look at different aspects of your life. Looking at it gives you an idea of what to do. Sometimes, the answers in our problems seem nothing; yet, the ideas that we need are already around us.
  3. Stop for a while. Do not hurry typing just because you are in deadline. Search for more details on the internet. Then, weigh if its source if reliable enough to be used in your article. Some people find time in creating articles in the coffee shops. It is important to think and reflect; then go back again.
  4. Worry less. – This four word one liner gives you chance to be confident in writing. If you have done your research then your post will be useful. Most of the times you do not need to discover anything, but to help people to understand something with your personal point of view.

So in other words. Do not lose time thinking that you are stuck. Research, take your time to relax, when your mind is relaxed put your information in order only taking the one that is worth reading and write it.

Why is important to have a content writer into your marketing plan?

Content marketing is a form of marketing which enables you to provide in-depth and valuable information which could attract new customers and retain the old ones. An orthodox form of marketing involves flyers and leaflets which could sound very mechanical or sometimes boring because it only discusses the main benefit which is just simply for advertising purposes. In the day and age of internet and multimedia, marketing has evolved entirely. The term content marketing is coined as early as 1996. This is used to build trust within the customers and your brand. Having a content writer is deemed to be useful because it has been proven to generate more sales. Especially during your first 2 years in the business, the possibility of gaining profit is difficult because you are yet to build your customer base. In content marketing, especially in e-commerce, this will take your business to a whole new level.

How does content marketing work?

Content marketing uses articles, blogs, social media, news and videos and e-books as its avenue. For example, when you hire a content writer to write an article for your website and readers found it enjoyable then they are more likely to share it to their friends. This is more of the “word of mouth” internet form of advertising. Your brand will get more exposure without having to pay that much money compared to running a television or newspaper ad, to put it simply – it cuts costs. It also gives your customer value, because content marketing such as blogs is something that reveals your sympathetic side making it more personal rather than corporate sounding. You will be able to build trust and rapport between your customers because they are reading something that is more from a personal point of view, rather than them looking at business perspective. This method will also lead you to generate more sales efficiently and reach unexpected target market because your reach has expanded through the course of social media and SEOs. When your customers are interested into buying something, they tend to ask more questions. With content marketing, you will be able to answer these queries and questions will eventually lead and be converted to sales. I was once told by my superior from my previous sales job that a client tends to ask because they are interested into getting your product and wanted some answers. If you are only able to answer them correctly without confusing them, then you will be able to convert those into sales. Content marketing are pretty straight forward. It is only the matter of how you write it to be able to attract more customers and gain net profit. It is also universal and fluid because content marketing works well with any type of industry. By providing customer with relevant information through your articles or blog, that is already called content marketing! Not only that, with blogs and articles that readers can leave comments, you will be able to provide them with an excellent customer service and having that for an experience as a customer will truly make me loyal to your business.

3 things you can do to get inspiration

No matter if you write in Spanish or in any other language, you probably have suffered some days that your brain is just empty. What could you do to put some ideas on?

  • Check social networks

Put some keywords in your favourite social network and see what you get. The goal is not to copy the fisrt post you see, but to get an idea about where the topic has a lack of information.

When you search on Facebook, Twitter or even in Google, it is common that you get some similar results in the top. Now you know what is there, try to think as a potential reader. What is missing? Answer this question and you have a great idea to write about.

  • Ask your children

Have you tried it? Children usually have an opinion about everything, and this opinion is probably a great and original way to start a post about something. In the end, you are a writer, you only need a nice and original point to start and the ideas will come. Let them try to help you.

  • Look at your old texts

One great idea is read again some of your old texts. You usually have a word limit, which means many texts have a central idea that is already developed and some tangential ideas that you could develop in your next post. Besides is an easy way to have an internal link for your site.

Tips to develop a content calendar

The work of writing content is not just about to write something every day. If you are a writer for a website, you probably need to create a content calendar in which you have to put the topics about you will write in the next post. Sometimes it is hard to imagine all the things that you will write about in the next month, so here I am giving some tips to help you to do it.

  1. Search for the next month in Wikipedia

Searching the name of the next month in Wikipedia you will get a list of the most important events that happens every year in that month. For instance, about march Wikipedia will notify you that it will be St Patrick festival.

This is a great way to be aware of the most important events in your society. It depends on your website and blog subject that you can get advantage of it, but it is easy that you will. Do you sell books? a post about books about St Patrick or Ireland, do you rent cars? a post about renting a car to go to party, etc.

2. Look for events in your city/region for the coming days

You need to be aware about the next concerts, congress, festivals, etc that will be ruling your city’s next month agenda. All these events bring people to your area and this people will look for information in the Internet, so you need to be there to let them know about your business.

3. Look for news in your sector

One of the objectives of having a blog is to become an expert in your clients’ mind about the thing you sell. So check the latest news about your sector and do a post about them. People that arrive at your website looking for that information is interested in your products.

How to create a budget without fixed income

If you are working from home it is very common that you don’t have a fixed income. Telecommute jobs usually look for flexible workers and it means flexible incomes. Each month you get as much money as you work, and sometimes the workflow is not so high nor it is your income.

How to be ok with your finances in this scenery?

First, you need to create a budget. Maybe you don’t have a fixed income, but I am sure you have some fixed costs. Creating a budget will help you understand your financial situation better and then create an emergency plan in case difficult times come.

Let’s do it simple. A budget has two big sides: Incomes and costs.

Having an accurate idea about your costs

Costs are easier to calculate. Of course sometimes can happen unexpected costs, but  it is not an everyday problem. Let’s focus in the costs that you already know you will have.

Make a list of your costs. Order them regarding its importance. This doesn’t mean that bigger costs are more important than little ones. Put the costs you need to have first, regardless their amount, and the ones that you can avoid in the end.

Now that you have your costs ordered. Take a look and make a line under the last costs that you think are unavoidable. The costs above the line are your fixed costs. The rest are variable costs and you should be able to stop them in case you need it.

Doing this in a situation in which you are not pushed by the need to cut your costs, helps you to be more objective about the ones you can or can’t remove.

Looking the income

No it is time to think about your income sources.

Create a list with your income sources, and try to figure out how much is the average income you get from each source and how much it can vary each month (100% … 20%).

For example you can have a client that sometimes asks very big projects, but that is not regular in his demands. Imagine this client have asked you three works in last year for $1000, $400 and $1000. If you work 12 months per year this means you get $24000 in the full year and $200 per month from this client. However, the income from this client varies 100%. Other client could have tasks every month, for instance $100, and the variation rate could be 0%, if each of the 12 months in the year you have received $100.

With this work, you have a better idea about who are your clients, what is their seasonality and which ones you can think about as fixed income and which ones not.

Of course, nothing is secure in this life, and you always have to work to get brand new clients, but have a clear idea of your situation only can help.

With this little exercise you can think in your finances in a much more accurate way.

Good luck

You need to create the story of your company

There are people looking for copywriters to write about anything and there are people looking for copywriters to write about the story of their business.

story telling as content marketing strategy

Storytelling is simply considered as one of the intellectual skill. It is something that has to be developed right from the childhood. As we grow in ages, we have to grow other abilities that will make our story telling skill more interesting and yet powerful. Along with the speaking skills, the skill needed for the story telling is making the audience get involved in the story telling. Even if people is not listening the story telling in person, they should get evoked into the story just while reading the story or even just watching it. They should build their involvement into the action of story and get impressed in such a way that they feel to share with the other people like colleagues, friends and neighbours.

Storytelling in the modern world has a broad scope and view.  There is a style in story telling called Contemporary storytelling that uses addressing mainly at the educational needs. Recent forms of the media are just creating new methods for the people in recording, expressing, and even consuming the stories. The specific Tools used for communicating with in the asynchronous group can actually provide room for the individuals in reframing or even recasting the different stories into group. Platforms like games and other digital ways which are used in the area like factious or storytelling, are actually used in positioning the people as a character within the same world. Subjects like documentaries that include interactive ones that employ techniques like storytelling narrative in communicating information on the same topic.

So if it work for all these area, why do you think it won’t for your business? Life is a circle. Most of the time what you see working in anything else will work in your business too. You only need to do the effort to adapt the working thing to the characteristics of your goals.

Every company should have its own story. It is not about talk saying nothing, but talk giving your customers the information they are looking for in the wide internet. By doing so, you will reach the difficult goal of being into your clients mind. And there will be a day when they need something that you provide, that they even won’t need to make a decision, they will have done the decision to ask you to help them time ago, when they was looking for other information in internet, when they entered the first time in your website.

Your blog is the best tool to become an expert in your client’s mind

In line with content marketing, one of its channels is through writing blogs. At first, when you heart about blogs, you was likely thinking about it as a personal diary. But blogs have now evolved and it is now taken into a whole new level especially in marketing and advertising.

Nowadays, business owners are hiring content writers to be able to improve, enhance and increase their fan base. With the amazing effects of search engine optimizations and social media advertising, many are trying to cut through a stiff competition when it comes to a certain product. And just like the others, you create a blog to help you stand out among them.

But what difference does it make? Blogging is another way of communicating with your clients or potential clients. People are now internet savvy and when they have a question, they turn to Google to find the answers. Now for example, you have successfully done what is right in order to put your site/ blog on the top of Google’s list. They would look for more answers. You can blog your answers by creating a question and answer or frequently asked questions sort of articles, or maybe even a how-to guide. This will enable them to think that you exactly know what you are saying and might be convinced to buy your product or service. I have read so many blogs and bloggers are trying to find ways or experimenting to be able to catch anyone’s attention and perhaps for their blog to go viral and spread the word. There are others who would send samples to bloggers and have them provide an honest review of their product in exchange for the freebies. That is one way of content marketing.

Benefits of a blog for your business:

A blog is one way for you to communicate and reach out to a wider market. Blogs also drive traffic into your website because when a blog seems to poke their attention and somehow provide relevant answers to all of their questions, it is likely for them to click into buying your products. When your blog provides reliable and relevant content, then it is likely for you to attract audience because you are becoming an expert in your clients mind when it comes to information related with your product. You will be able to explain them the benefits which your readers or potential customers can be able to grasp fully and this will lead to trust, and when consumers trust your brand, this will then generate sales.

Another benefit of blogging for your business is that you become their knowledge base or you have created and established authority. Consistently creating blogs with relevant contents will be helpful to your existing and new customers.

Blogging will also benefit your business because some blogs will enable your viewers to leave comments, and hopefully not spam. This will increase your interaction with them and have them experience excellent customer service. They can provide insight as to where your product can improve on and sometimes appreciate the product that they have used (which is self-gratifying for you and your brand.) This is essential because it is like you are being sympathetic to your customers and putting yourself into their shoes which is a good point for constructive criticism.

Story telling in the top of marketing trends

Storytelling is the process of conveying current events verbally using images more often by creativeness. Today storytelling is also a marketing source to keep and audience engaged with a brand.

storytelling as marketing trendStories are shared in all cultures as an indication of mass media, entertainment, school and college education, cultural ethnics, and even inspiring with moral values. The sensational elements of the stories and story narrating generally include the plots, story men, and point of view of the story narration.

There are few stories narrated in a way that expresses the original feelings of the people. Such kind of stories are really welcomed and get chance to understand and give voice to them.

Storytelling is simply the method used in order to share and interpret the experiences people have had in the current event. The stories narrated are actually universal where they can generally bridge the gaps between the educational, linguistic, and even age-specific divides. So the storytelling can really become suitable for people from all ages, just leaving the perception of the age isolation. Storytelling is also used as a method that teaches ethics, moral values, and other cultural norms and traditional differences. Learning is actually the most effective one while happening in the social environments which provides more genuine social indication on how the built knowledge is to be actually used and applied. These stories actually function as the best tool in passing the knowledge along the social environment in a friendly and very casual way.

Why is storytelling getting more marketers attention?

After all of the above facts, the knowledge with the human beings is actually based on the stories and the cognitive memory that is needed to perceive, understand, remember, and share the stories with the others. Generally Human beings are considered as the storytelling elements which can serve both individually and socially as whole. Stories are something that can replicate the interior thought as they narrate the stories and very often they remember the real incidents in the form of stories. Facts can actually easily understandable as they are the minor versions of the stories. Hence the storytelling is something that supplies the analytical thoughts.

So if you want your customers knowing your brand exactly as you imagine it by yourself, you need to tell them through a storie.
